Özet
Antibiotics reach to agricultural areas through different means and affect the growth and development of plants. The aim of this research is to investigate some biochemical responses caused on pepper plants by enrofloxacin (Enro), an antibiotic widely used on veterinary medicine, and to determine how ascorbate (AsA), which is an antioxidant, affects these responses. For this purpose, activities of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), glutathione S-transferase (GST) and glutathione reductase (GR) as well as total chlorophyll, carotenoids, proline, AsA, glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA) contents of pepper plants that are treated with Enro at different concentrations (10, 100, and 1000 mu g/L) were analyzed. In general, while total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents as well as APX activities decreased; MDA, glutathione and AsA contents as well as GST and GR activities increased for plants treated with Enro especially at high concentrations. While MDA content decreased with treatment of 100 mg/L ASA as foliar, total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents increased, and antioxidant defense responses were induced. Our findings indicate that treatment with Enro induced some phytotoxic responses on pepper plants and exogenous AsA treatment alleviated negative effects of Enro.
