Özet
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different denture cleansing agents on the surface roughness of denture characterizing indirect composite resins and heat-cured acrylic base material. Methods: The materials examined in terms of surface roughness were two different indirect gingival composites [Gradia Plus Gum (GC) and SR Nexco Paste Gingiva (SR)] and one heat-cured polymethyl methacrylate acrylic resin (PMMA) [Meliodent (MD)] in the study. A total of 90 disc-shaped specimens were prepared, 30 of each material (10 × 2). The samples of each material were divided into 3 subgroups (n = 10) according to the tested denture cleansing solutions, and they were immersed in distilled water (control) and two different cleansing solutions (1% NaOCl and Corega) for 90 days. Surface roughness measurements of the samples at the baseline (Ra0) and after 90 days (Ra1) were measured with a profilometer. Data were statistically analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test was used to compare each material’s Ra0 and Ra1 values (p < 0.05). Results: The effect of different denture cleansing solutions on the surface roughness of the materials was statistically significant (p < 0.001). For all materials, while the difference between Ra0 and Ra1 values was statistically significant at 1% NaOCl (p < 0.05), no statistical difference was observed for Corega. While 1% NaOCl solution caused a statistically significant decrease in the surface roughness of PMMA, it caused an increase in composite materials. Conclusion: 1% NaOCl denture cleansing solution can be recommended for the chemical cleansing of PMMA, but it should be considered that it increases the surface roughness of denture characterizing composite resins. It can be said that Corega is a suitable cleansing solution for all tested materials. © 2022, Selcuk University. All rights reserved.
