Multi-program schools and rising new values in education: Intercultural communication, world citizenship and peace education

| dc.description.abstract | Both the international economic and social mobility arising from the movement of capital beyond the borders of the country with the effect of globalization, and, the worldwide use of mass media based on advanced technology and social media networks have deeply affected the structures and lifestyles of societies. With these effects of globalization, which is also known as the "new world order", the wars that broke out in various parts of the world, the increasing inter-communal tension and the resulting migration or large-scale migration to industrialized countries based on economic difficulties, intercultural and even it required interaction between societies. Therefore, changes have occurred in the education system based on the new needs of the individual and society. As a result of this situation, it has made a need for multi-program schools. However, it also brought concepts such as world citizenship, peace education and multicultural communication to the fore. This study was conducted in order to examine an exemplary school in Antalya that implements national and international programs together in 2020. It has been prepared in a case study design in accordance with the qualitative research method and consists of administrators and teachers working in Antalya Community College Primary and Secondary School and their parents who have students at the school, which is determined according to the extreme or deviant case sampling method. Some of the research results can be listed as follows: according to the administrators, teachers and parents it was seen that gaining a universal perspective as the benefits provided by the school implementing national and international programs in preparing the student as "a world citizen". Regarding to the school implementing a national and international program has the following contributions in terms of improving children's "peace education" skills: students learn not to be racist, children learn about religion, language, culture, etc. In terms of the contributions of the school multi-program to the development of children's "intercultural communication" skills are stated as: students who will not have adaptation problems when they go to foreign countries are brought up, students who do not find it odd to different cultures are raised. Based on these results, it can be suggested that schools should include programs and courses that will increase intercultural communication, peace education and students' ability to become a world citizens. © Akademisyen Yayinevi Kitabevi 2021.
