Being the tiniest unit of society, the family is the social group emerging with the decision of two people at least in sharing the life together. When this social structure, which determines the future of any nation, to be considered in cultural terms, it can be easily observed that this structure is considered to be highly important and emphasized with religious codes. Though marriage, as the first step to family, seems to be a universal form of application at all the human groups on earth, the formation and the procedures on the eve and in the aftermath of it show a wide range of diversities at almost all the nations, even within any nation. Such rituals as selecting spouse, number of spouses, asking for the maiden from her family, henna night are embedded in the cultural heritage of humankind along with the determined codes and limits in every cultural setting. Marriage is one of the most significant turning points by which the people obtain a new social status and change their lifestyles by leaving individuality. The wedding ceremonies conducted in traditional structure turn to vanish day-by-day as the people consider traditional practices as unnecessary details. This study focuses on the traditional marriage practices and related phases in Adiyaman and its vicinity, ranging from meeting of two people to be married with each other to kissing hands of their elder family members.
