Gender-based discrimination against women is a major human rights violation and hinders women’s participation in the political, social, economic and cultural life as well as with men. Gender-based inequality is the most common form of social inequality. This is because gender inequality exists together with all other forms such as class, caste, race and ethnicity. While inequalities against women related to reproductive health problems due to biological differences go on through life; as a result of income-class effects which is important social determinants of health, inequalities negatively affects women’s life in a wider context, including woman’s right to health and the right to life. Further, social gender discrimination is an important factor affecting women’s health and social health in terms of women’s health. In this article, gender-based discrimination components and their effects on women’s health are evaluated. © 2020, Turkish Medical Association. All rights reserved.
