Öğe Family Planning Among Muslim Women in Türkiye: The Role of Sinful Beliefs, Sexual Function, and Violence(Springer, 2025) Yilmaz, Figen AlpThis study was conducted to determine the effects of violence, sexual function, and sinful beliefs on family planning in Muslim women of reproductive age. A cross-sectional design was used. The study was conducted with 915 women of reproductive age who presented to family health centers between September 2020 and September 2021. In the study, women's mean score on the family planning attitude scale was 129.16 +/- 28.80, and 53.2% had a risk of sexual dysfunction. Factors, such as the education level, using family planning methods, exposure to sexual violence, sin beliefs, and sexual function, affected the family planning. Health personnel can determine the status of exposure to violence, sinful belief, and sexual functions in women of reproductive age and provide education and counseling to reduce the impact of these factors on family planning attitudes.Öğe Pregnant Turkish Muslim Women's Perspectives and Experiences on Religion and Spirituality during Pregnancy(Springer, 2025) Yilmaz, Figen Alp; Uzuncakmak, TugbaThe aim of this study is to determine the views and experiences of pregnant Muslim women about religion and spirituality during pregnancy. A descriptive, phenomenological design was used, and the study was conducted with 16 pregnant Muslim women living in T & uuml;rkiye. The thematic analysis method was used. The main themes created in the study were pregnant women's motivation to have children, changes during pregnancy, faith and spirituality during pregnancy, support for the moment of birth, and motherhood. Pregnant women also need moral support in addition to routine practices and follow-ups during this difficult and distressing process. Religious practices provide psychological comfort for pregnant women in coping with the symptoms they experience and having a healthy birth and a healthy baby. Spiritual care should be given importance in raising health professionals and spirituality-based topics should be included in the education process.Öğe The Effect of Hyperemesis Gravidarum on Acceptance of Pregnancy and Quality of Life: A Comparative Study(Bentham Science Publ Ltd, 2023) Tahta, Tugba; Yilmaz, Figen AlpObjective This study was conducted to determine the effect of hyperemesis gravidarum diagnosis in pregnant women on their acceptance of pregnancy and quality of life. Methods This case-control study was conducted with 375 pregnancy 175 diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (case group), 200 pregnant women with healthy pregnancy (control group), between July 2018 and February 2019, in Turkey. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form, World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire Brief Version was used to ascertain quality of life and to determine adaptation to pregnancy, the Prenatal Self-Evaluation Scale was applied. Only the Acceptance of Pregnancy subdimensions were included in the study. Results Pregnancy acceptance was found to be significantly lower in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum than in healthy pregnant women. The quality of life levels of the pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum were found to be lower than those in the healthy pregnant women. Conclusion Quality of life is affected by hyperemesis gravidarum. In addition, low quality of life and hyperemesis gravidarum negatively affect the acceptance of pregnancy. This result highlights that healthcare professionals should develop a strategy to improve the quality of life of women with hyperemesis and help them accept their pregnancy.Öğe The relationship between depression, daughter-in-law relationship, and sexual quality of life in postpartum women(Springer, 2025) Tuncer, Sevinc Kose; Yilmaz, Figen AlpThe postpartum period is a process that negatively affects women's sexual quality of life. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between depression, the daughter-in-law relationship and sexual quality of life in women in the postpartum period. Cross-sectional study was conducted between August 2021 and August 2022 with face-to-face interviews with 200 postpartum women who applied to family health centers in a province in Turkey. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law Relationship Scale and Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire. In the study, it was determined that there was a significant weak negative correlation between the Postnatal Depression, Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law Relationship and Sexual Quality of Life. It was also determined that breastfeeding status, having problems with postpartum sexuality, evaluation of postpartum sexual life, communication with the partner after birth, receiving information about sexuality from postpartum health personnel, and the relationship with the mother-in-law were predictors of the quality of sexual life in women in the postpartum period (p < 0.05). There are many factors that affect the sexual quality of life in women during the postpartum period. Therefore, healthcare personnel can provide psychosocial care and counseling services to enhance women's sexual quality of life during this time.Öğe The relationship between premenstrual syndrome and personality traits in university students(Assoc Medica Brasileira, 2024) Yilmaz, Figen AlpOBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between personality traits and premenstrual syndrome in university students METHOD: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 616 female university students between February and June 2020. RESULTS: The Premenstrual Syndrome Scale score was determined as a mean of 125.40 +/- 25.41. +/- 25.41. According to linear regression analysis, extrovert/ introvert personality traits, emotional balance/neuroticism, and consistent/inconsistent personality traits were statistically significant predictive factors of premenstrual syndrome. CONCLUSION: The results of this study demonstrated that two-thirds of the students had premenstrual syndrome and personality traits affected premenstrual syndrome. It is recommended that attention should be paid to personality traits when coping with premenstrual syndrome.Öğe The Relationship Between Psychological Pain, Spiritual Well-Being, and Social Support in Turkish Women Undergoing Therapeutic or Elective Abortion(Springer, 2025) Yilmaz, Figen Alp; Avci, DilekThis study was conducted to determine the relationship between psychological pain, spiritual well-being, and social support among Turkish women undergoing therapeutic or elective abortion. The cross-sectional study was conducted with 342 women who were hospitalized in the gynecology and obstetrics service of a city hospital between March 2021 and December 2022 in Turkey. The mean psychological pain, spiritual well-being and perceived social support scores of women undergoing therapeutic/elective abortion were 26.96 +/- 11.21, 110.72 +/- 13.09 and 64.09 +/- 15.62, respectively. There were a significant negative correlation between psychological pain with spiritual well-being and social support. According to linear regression analysis, spiritual well-being, social support, age, employment status, economic level, history of abortion, number of abortion, current abortion type, and gestational week were statistically significant predictive factors of psychological pain. Therefore, healthcare providers can provide individualized psychosocial-spiritual care and counseling services that decrease psychological pain in women after therapeutic or elective abortion.Öğe The Relationship between the Fear of Childbirth and Anxiety during the Covid-19 Pandemic(Ivano-Frankivsk Natl Medical Univ, 2022) Tuncer, Sevinc Kose; Yilmaz, Figen Alp; Karakurt, Papatya; Ciltas, Nadire YildizIntroduction. The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which emerged in Wuhan, China, in late 2019, has affected the whole world. Pregnant women who are expected to give birth during this period are one of the most important groups affected by these processes. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between the fear of childbirth and anxiety among pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods. The cross-sectional study was conducted on 181 pregnant women in a city in the eastern region of Turkey between July and November 2020. Results. Mid-level fear of childbirth was experienced by 44.8% of pregnant women. A positive correlation was found between the average anxiety score of pregnant women and childbirth fear. Conclusions. The findings of the study will guide healthcare professionals in finding applicable solutions to the problems experienced by pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
