A GRAPHICAL EXPRESSION SUPPORTING LISTENING AND MUSICAL PERCEPTION: MUSICOGRAM TECHNIQUE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD
(2023) Türkoglu, Dıdem; Terzıoglu, Ahmet Mutlu; Yaşar, Münevver Can
Various techniques are employed to enhance music listening and perception skills in early childhood. One of these techniques is the musicogram method, proposed by Wuytack in the early 1970s following research into active music listening. This study aims to examine musicogram videos targeting early childhood shared on a social media platform, YouTube. The study employed a qualitative research method, and data was collected through document analysis. For data collection, videos were accessed on the video-sharing platform YouTube using keywords “müzikogram,” “müzogram,” “musicogram,” “musicograma.” Within the filtering criteria, musicograms in Turkish and different languages were included in the study based on their highest view counts across all time periods and sorted by ranking. As a result of the study, it was observed that classical Western music was predominantly used in musicograms prepared in different languages, whereas digital music and familiar children’s songs were preferred in Turkish musicograms. It was also found that the symbolic representation used in musicograms did not correspond to the melodic rhythmic patterns of the compositions. The use of musicograms for early childhood has gained significant popularity on social media; however, there is a need to enhance the content to be more comprehensive, including theoretical and practical information.

Exploring the Horizons: The Influence of 'Children Learning the Language of Nature' Project on Fundamental Skill Development and Environmental Attitudes
(2025) Kaya, Ümıt Ünsal; Karaca, Nezahathamiden; Ocak, İjlal; Yaşar, Münevver Can; Fidan, Nuray Kurtdede
In the contemporary world, rapid technological advancements, increasing urbanization, and industrialization have exacerbated environmental issues. Addressing these challenges necessitates cultivating sensitive and conscious individuals. Within this scope, the \"Children Learning the Language of Nature\" project was implemented from October 5 to 9, 2020, targeting preschool children with limited exposure to nature education. Conducted in various natural settings in Afyonkarahisar, the project involved 20 children and featured 41 diverse activities spanning drama, art, music, mathematics, and Turkish. These activities aimed to familiarize children with the natural environment, enhance their environmental awareness, and support their cognitive development. To evaluate the children's fundamental skills and environmental attitudes, the Preschool Children’s Basic Skills Scale and the Children's Attitudes Towards the Environment Scale were employed. The findings demonstrate the significant role of nature education in early childhood, offering valuable insights for educators and policymakers. This study underscores the importance of fostering environmentally conscious and sensitive children while serving as a foundation for the development of future educational programs. Moreover, it highlights the critical role of nature education in supporting holistic child development.

The Effect of Project Approach-Based Education on Children’s Early Literacy Skills
([TR] Muhammed ZİNCİRLİ, 2022) Akyol, Tugce; Şenol, Fatma Betül; Yaşar, Münevver Can
In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of project-based education on children's early literacy skills. Experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the research. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 36 children in the experimental (n: 18) and control (n: 18) groups, who attended independent kindergartens affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the city center of Afyon, which were randomly selected from the population. As a data collection tool in the study, the "General Information Form" developed by the researchers to collect personal information about children and families (gender, number of siblings, duration of pre-school education, parents' ages, educational status, occupation) and to evaluate early literacy skills the “Test of Early Literacy” (TEL) developed by Kargın, Güldenoğlu and Ergül (2015) were used. A project-based education program was applied to the children in the experimental group, 3 days a week for 8 weeks. A statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the children in the experimental and control groups from all of the TEL and its sub-dimensions, in favor of the scores they got from the posttest. Due to the positive change in the experimental and control groups, the pre-test and post-test score differences of the children in the experimental and control groups were compared. As a result of the comparison, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group.
