N The rapid proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally transformed the advertising landscape. From algorithmically written copy and synthetically generated visuals to personalized product recommendations and virtual influencers, AI now plays a central role in how brands create, target, and deliver persuasive messages to consumers. Industry projections suggest that by 2026, a substantial portion of digital advertising content will involve some form of AI generation (Jesus et al., 2026), driven by efficiency gains, creative augmentation, and the promise of hyper‑personalization at scale. Yet this technological shift has introduced profound questions that extend far beyond marketing effectiveness. How do consumers evaluate advertisements they know – or suspect – were generated by a machine? Does the use of AI in advertising enhance or erode trust in the brands and manufacturers behind those ads? Can consumers calibrate their trust appropriately, neither over‑relying on nor dismissing AI‑generated persuasive content? And what ethical governance mechanisms are needed to ensure that AI‑driven marketing aligns with consumer expectations, legal requirements, and societal values? This book addresses these questions by bringing together five empirical studies that examine consumer responses to AI‑generated advertising from multiple psychological, relational, and governance perspectives. Rather than treating AI‑generated ads as a simple variation of traditional advertising, the volume conceptualizes algorithmic authorship as a trigger for multilevel evaluative processes – affecting brand attitudes, manufacturer perceptions, corporate reputation, affective trust, trust calibration, and ethical judgments. The chapters collectively advance a human‑centered understanding of AI in marketing, emphasizing that consumers do not respond to AI content in isolation; rather, they evaluate the technological source, the organizational entities responsible for it, the transparency of its use, and the ethical framework within which it operates.
