Öğe Can haematological parameters be a guide in hospitalization and survive of COVID-19 patients diagnosed at the emergency service?(2025) Çanakçı, Selçuk Eren; Turkdogan, Figen Tunali; Türkmen, Fatih; Turkdogan, Kenan Ahmet; Kapçı, Mücahit; Küçükgül, FurkanThis study investigates the relationship between hematological laboratory parameters and length of hospital stay in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Of the possible or suspect COVID-19 cases who applied to our emergency service, those who were diagnosed with Covid were included in the study. Age, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), platelet count (PLT), red cell distribution width (RDW), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) values of the patients who resulted with mortality were found to be significantly higher when compared with those of the patients who survived (p<0.001; 72.0 vs 51.0, p=0.007; 86.7 vs 85.4, p<0.001; 223.0 vs 196.0, p<0.001; 306.0 vs 243.0, p=0.009; 14.2 vs 13.9, p<0.001; 21.0 vs 14.0, p<0.001; 5.6 vs 3.0, respectively). According to the results, a positive significant association was found between age, LDH and NLR and hospitalization time (p<0.001; p<0.001and p<0.001 respectively). High level of NLR can help in showing hospital mortality and long hospitalization time in diagnosed COVID 19 cases, while low NLR can help the clinician in deciding on the indication of home treatment.Öğe Does Lactate Dehydrogenase Act as an Early Warning System Predicting Mortality in Trauma Patients?(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Canakci, Selcuk Eren; Turkdogan, Figen Tunali; Turkmen, Fatih; Turkdogan, Kenan Ahmet; Kapci, Mucahit; Kucukgul, FurkanAim: Trauma is one of the most prevalent causes of death and disability in middle age, and early diagnosis and treatment are critical in minimizing mortality and morbidity. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an indicator of inflammation in many diseases. We aim to present this study, in which we measure the power of LDH to show us mortality in the blood sample taken at the first examination in trauma patients, in the light of the literature. Materials and Methods: Trauma patients of emergency medicine department between November 2020 and November 2021, were analyzed. Trauma mechanism, consultations, mortality-morbidity, and scoring were evaluated retrospectively. Results: The glasgow coma scale (GCS), injury severity score (ISS), and new injury severity score (NISS) values of the patients were 14.58 +/- 1.76 (95% confidence interval: 14.43-14.73), 14 (0-76), and 18 (0-101) respectively. The data for leukocytes, hemoglobin, platelets, glucose, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and LDH were significantly different between the control and patient groups. The comparison of leukocyte, hemoglobin, glucose, creatinine, AST, and LDH data between the survivors and the deceased in the patient group revealed a statistically significant difference. ROC analysis was then applied to evaluate these markers in the non-surviving patients. ISS, NISS, GCS, alanine aminotransferase, AST and LDH were found to be significant. Conclusion: LDH elevation, which is studied between routine procedures, may be beneficial for physicians working in the periphery both in patient referral and in making an early operation decision. Thus, we believe that mortality and morbidity will decrease with the use of LDH, a cost-effective marker.Öğe Management in Disasters: An Overview(2023) Turkdogan, Kenan Ahmet; Aslan, AhmetIn this article, current knowledge on the management of natural and man-made disasters is briefly reviewed.
