The Relationships between Investment Incentives, International Trade and Foreign Direct Investments: The Case of Turkey

Government incentives are important tools in terms of policies applied during the development of national economies. International trade and foreign direct investments are among the most important factors of economic development. Turkey applies substantial investment incentives for international trade and foreign direct investments. In this direction, the relationships between investment incentives, international trade and foreign direct investments were analyzed within the scope of the study. It is used quarterly data between 2001 and 2021 due to data constraints within the scope of the analyses. The cointegration analysis demontrates that there are long-term relationships between investment incentives, international trade and foreign direct investments. According to the result of the frequency domain causality analysis, it has been determined that there is a unidirectional causality relationship from exports to investment incentives in the short term, while there is a unidirectional causality relationship from investment incentives to foreign direct investments in the medium and long term.
