    Attitudes of sport parents towards children's eating habits

    Today, parents have assumed important roles in shaping their children's eating habits in social and daily life. Especially the tendency of parents who do sports to transfer their healthy lifestyles to their children has positive effects on children's eating habits. This study examines the attitudes of parents on this issue and the effects of these attitudes on children's eating habits. In line with the aim of the study, the attitudes of parents who do sports towards their children's eating habits were investigated. The rationale of the study is to focus on how parents' attitudes towards nutrition affect their children's eating habits and the contribution of these attitudes to children's general health and sports performance. The findings of the study show that parents' nutrition attitudes are critical for children to develop a healthy lifestyle. This study was conducted between 20232024 and 860 parents and their children participated in the study. The data obtained from the study were collected using a 5-point Likert-type scale form with validity and reliability and analysed with SPSS 22.0 software. Various statistical techniques such as descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test, ANOVA, factor and regression analyses were used in the study. The findings obtained at the end of the research show that parents' nutritional attitudes have significant effects on children's eating habits. Parents' attitudes towards healthy eating and physical activity positively affect children's eating habits. Children of parents who do sports develop healthier eating habits, are more active and take part in physical activities. The study reveals that parents' nutritional attitudes contribute to children's general health and sports performance.

    Determination of job stress levels of physical education and sport teachers

    This study investigates how the job stress levels of physical education and sport teachers vary according to gender, age, educational status and job position. Within the scope of the research, the data obtained from 520 teachers were used and the job stress questionnaire was evaluated under four main subheadings. The results of Bartlett's test and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) coefficient for the suitability of the data for factor analysis showed that the data were quite suitable for factor analysis; while the workload sub-heading explained the highest variance with 26.7%, skill use explained 14.2%, decision freedom explained 12.03% and social support explained 11.6% of the total variance. In the analyses based on gender differences, it was determined that male teachers had higher levels of workload stress, while female teachers had higher levels of skill use, decision freedom and social support stress. In the analyses conducted between age groups, no significant differences were found in the sub-dimensions. Similar results were obtained in the analyses conducted according to education levels. In the analyses conducted according to job positions, it was determined that administrators did not differ from non-administrators in all dimensions. These results show that it is important to customise job stress management strategies according to gender, age and job positions. It is emphasised that general stress management strategies should be developed to cover all demographic groups.

    Investigation of the effects of some demographic characteristics of female athletes on emotional intelligence and life satisfaction

    In many subjects and fields, emotional intelligence refers to the ability of individuals to understand, express and manage their own emotions and the emotions of others. Especially sport is known to have a significant effect on emotional intelligence. In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of some demographic characteristics of female athletes on emotional intelligence and life satisfaction. The participants were all women and analyses were performed by taking into account age groups, sports branches and education departments. Emotional intelligence and life satisfaction scales were evaluated by factor analysis and the suitability of the data was confirmed by Bartlett's test. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha coefficients. Anova, Kruskal Wallis and Jonckheere-Terpstra tests were used to analyse the data. All analyses were performed with SPSS v22.0. 34% of the participants were 18-21 years old, 45% were 22-25 years old and 21% were over 26 years old. 31% were interested in team sports and 69% were interested in individual sports. The fields of education are 37% coaching, 32% physical education and sports teaching, 31% sports management. According to the factor analysis results, Bartlett's test p<0.001 and KMO coefficient 0.896 were found. Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged between 0.583 and 0.924. While some factors differed according to age, no difference was found according to sport branch. While evaluation of own emotions and social skills differed according to departments, other factors did not differ. Participants over 26 years of age had low scores in the use of emotions and life satisfaction factors. These findings provide important clues for developing strategies for improving emotional intelligence and increasing life satisfaction.

    The effect of endurance- based sports on athlete success and psychological wellbeing

    The aim of this study is to examine the effects of psychological resilience on sport success and mental health. The relationships between commitment, control and challenge, which are sub-dimensions of psychological resilience, and sport success and psychological wellbeing were evaluated and discussed in detail. Today, the problems arising due to the increasing competitive environment and stress factors have made it more important for athletes to be psychologically strong. Although the relationship between psychological resilience and sport success has been previously examined in the literature, studies evaluating the individual effects of the sub-dimensions of resilience in a large sample group are quite limited. This study aims to overcome this deficiency and make an up-to-date contribution to the subject. A total of 684 students (72 percent male, 28 percent female) studying at the Faculties of Sport Sciences of 16 universities in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa and Antalya participated in the study. Participants completed the Resilience Scale and Mental Health Inventory, and their sporting achievements were evaluated by their coaches using the Sport Achievement Scale. Data were collected via Google Forms (R) and analysed using SPSS 22.0 software with correlation, regression and Granger causality tests. The findings revealed that all resilience sub-dimensions showed positive and significant relationships with sport achievement ( R-2=0.93) and psychological well-being (R-2=0.68). Especially control and challenge factors had the strongest effects. As a result of the research, commitment, control and challenge, which are the sub-dimensions of psychological resilience, significantly affect both success levels and psychological well-being of athletes. Therefore, resilience development programmes for athletes should focus on these areas.

    The Effects and Determinants of Leisure Time Activities on Successful Aging and Quality of Life in Older Adults

    Background: This study aimed to determine the effects and determinants of leisure time activities on successful ageing and quality of life levels in older adults. Methods: The study was cross-sectional. The population of the study consists of older adults residing in Samsun/Ayvacik district in Turkey (N = 2662). Descriptive statistics, Chi-Square test, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: 60.6% were between 65 and 74, 84.8% were married, and 80.8% were primary school graduates. When the leisure time activities of the participants were analyzed, the first three ranks were watching TV, participation in social activities (97.8%), gardening (84.1%) and short walks (68.9%). The mean leisure time activities of the participants were 3.11 +/- 0.71, the mean scores of successful ageing were 36.89 +/- 8.06, and the mean scores of quality of life were 24.73 +/- 3.30. A positive relationship was determined between leisure time activities, successful ageing and quality of life (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The first significant result of the study is that participation in leisure time activities positively affects quality of life and healthy ageing. The second significant result is that the level of leisure time activities, successful ageing, and quality of life are affected by gender, and the scores of men are higher than those of women.     The effects of sports and physical activity on quality of life in elderly individuals taking regular medication

    In this applied study, the effects of medication use and regular sports and physical activity on quality of life in elderly individuals who regularly use medication were examined. In this study, 4972 people with different demographic characteristics participated in this research and data were collected with a questionnaire method consisting of a 5-point Likert scale. The data obtained were in order to understand the effects of demographic variables on medication use and quality of life. Within the framework of the study, the relationship between demographic factors such as age, gender, educational status, marital status and medication use, medication recommendation and the number of medications used analysed in detail. After statistical analyses using ANOVA and Chi-square analyses, it found that medication use differed especially according to age and marital status, while medication recommendation was significantly related to gender, educational status and marital status. In terms of other findings, in addition to demographic factors, regular physical activity and sports positive effects on medication use. It was also determined that the number of medication used was significantly related to loneliness and feeling of helplessness. It also found that the feeling of loneliness and medication use pattern were in a significant relationship in individuals engaged in sports and physical activity. In addition, it was found that there was a significant relationship between medication intake and quality of life in individuals engaged in sports and physical activity. After this study, it has been revealed that it is a very important source to understand the relationship between medication use and quality of life in elderly individuals who do sports and physical activity and the importance of encouraging elderly individuals to do more physical activity.

    The Relationship of E-health Literacy with Cyberchondria: A Cross-Sectional Study on Pregnant Women

    Background and Objectives: Health literacy and cyberchondriaare effective for pregnant women to make the right health decisions for themselves and their babies. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between e-health literacy, cyberchondria, and the factors influencing them in pregnant women. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted on a population of pregnant women who were admitted to two public hospitals located in Samsun. A questionnaire form consisting of 3 sections was used as a data collection tool in the study. Pregnancy information form, e-health literacy scale and cyberchondria scale. The study involved analysing 400 questionnaire forms. Data were analyzed by the frequency test, One Way ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression. Results: The study participants had a mean age of 28.53 +/- 6.53. Among them, 60.3% were aged 19-29, 37.3% had an associate degree, 45.3% were pregnant for the first time, and 38.3% were in their second trimester. The mean pregnancy was 1.81 +/- 10.63. In the study group, the mean e-health literacy was 3.27 +/- 0.99, and the mean cyberchondria was 30.29 +/- 9.78. The study found a statistically significant difference in e-health literacy and cyberchondria based on age, educational status, gestational week, and number of pregnancies. Additionally, there was a statistically significant positive relationship between health literacy and cyberchondria severity. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the level of e-health literacy and cyberchondria of pregnant women was moderate, and that e-health literacy, age and education level would affect cyberchondria. Therefore, this problem can be prevented by providing digital health practices, e-health literacy and safe internet use training to pregnant women in health institutions and the media.
