Öğe A Case of VEXAS Syndrome Presenting with Unexplained Headache(2025) Atas, Unal; Alhan, Nurcan; Beypınar, Dilek; Şahin, Sevinç; Keşkek, Şakir Özgür[Abstract Not Available]Öğe A practical means of evaluating the prognosis of acute pancreatitis, as measurement of carotid artery intima-media thickness(2022) Kürkçü, K.; Kara, B.; Koç, A. Ş.; Keşkek, Şakir ÖzgürBackgroung and study aims: Factors such as age, obesity, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia that cause adverse prognosis in acute pancreatitis also cause an increase in carotid intima-media thickness. In this study, we aimed to investigate the usability of the measurement of carotid intima-media thickness, which is an easy to apply, cost-effective means of measurement applied to the patients, in predicting AP prognosis, apart from the criteria currently utilized to predict AP prognosis. Patient and methods: 101 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis were prospectively enrolled into the study. Right and left common carotid artery intima-media thickness, right and left internal carotid artery intima-media thickness were measured with ultrasonographic images performed within the first 24 hours of hospitalization. local or systemic complications and organ failure development were monitored in the follow-up of the patients. Results: After the ROC analysis was performed and the threshold value was determined. The patients with main and internal carotid artery intima-media thickness above 0.775 mm were seen to have a more severe AP (p = 0.000). Local and systemic complications and organ failure were also more common in these patients. Conclusions: Measurement of carotid intima-media thickness is a non-invasive method that can be used to predict the prognosis in patients with acute pancreatitis at presentation.Öğe Diyabetik Retinopatili Hastalarda Serum Lipid Seviyeleri(Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat Üniversitesi, 2025) Başdoğan, Bilge; Keskek, Nedime Sahinoglu; Özilice, Utku; Raufoğlu, Cihad; Özilice, Özden; Keşkek, Şakir ÖzgürAmaç: Diyabetik retinopati, diyabetes mellitusun en sık görülen komplikasyonlarından biridir. Is diabetes mellitus associated with malnutrition in patients in intensive care unit? Diabetes and malnutrition(2020) Zerman, Avşar; Keşkek, Şakir ÖzgürAim: Types of diseases and treatment modalities can also lead to the exacerbation of malnutrition. The aim of this study was to investigate nutritional status of patients with diabetes mellitus in the intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital. Materials and methods: One hundred and ninety-two patients were enrolled and divided into two groups. The study group comprised of 77 patients with type 2 diabetes and the control group comprised of 115 patients without diabetes. The nutritional risk assessment was tested with NRS (Nutritional Risk Screening) 2002, Nutric score, MNA (Mini-Nutritional Assessment) and MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool). Results: The groups were comparable according to the NRS 2002 (3.37 ± 1.84 vs. 3.93 ± 1.72, p = 0.075), Nutric score (4.61 ± 1.85 vs. 4.56 ± 1.85, p = 0.869), MNA (8.0 ± 3.1 vs. 7.1 ± 3.2, p = 0.068) and MUST score (1.62 ± 1.46 vs. 1.81 ± 1.59, p = 0.456). Conclusion: In this study, the risk of malnutrition is comparable in both groups. This result may suggest that malnutrition is also related to co-morbidities in addition to diabetes.Öğe Low Serum Magnesium level can be a risk factor for Retinopathy in diabetic patients: A cross-sectional controlled study(2021) Bankır, Mehmet; Keşkek, Nedime Şahinoğlu; Saler, Tayyibe; Keşkek, Şakir Özgür; Cevher, SelimAim: Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to complications which are related to high blood sugar and insulin resistance (IR). A decrease in serum magnesium (Mg) levels can cause an increase in IR and a worsening of glycaemic control. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and serum Mg levels. Methods: The study was designed as a cross-sectional study in the internal medicine department of a tertiary referral center (Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital) in Turkey. A total of 554 subjects, including 176 patients with DR patients, 209 patients without DR, and 169 healthy individuals were included in this study. Serum fasting glucose levels, insulin levels, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), HbA1c percentages, and Mg levels were measured for all subjects. Results: Serum Mg level was lower in patients with DR (p<0.001). Furthermore; HOMA-IR, HbA1c and fasting glucose levels were higher in patients with DR (p<0.001, respectively). Incidence of DR was associated with serum Mg levels (odds ratio: 2.1, confidence interval: 95% 1.2-3.6, p=0.005). Conclusion: Low Mg level can lead to retinopathy by impairing glucose homeostasis. In patients with diabetes, Mg levels should be checked since Mg may be a supporting treatment.Öğe Sexual dysfunction in female subjects with beta-thalassemia minor(Springer Nature, 2020) Keşkek, Şakir Özgür; Demirtaş, Derya; Uysal, Gülsüm; Başaran, EnesBeta thalassemia minor (BTM) is a hereditary disease caused by defective globin synthesis and it is frequently asymptomatic or only mildly anemic. Female sexual dysfunction affects 21–41% of women worldwide. In this study we aimed to investigate female sexual dysfunction in subjects with BTM. A total of 183 subjects who had regular sexual intercourse with marital partners were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. The study group was comprised of 87 subjects with BTM and the control group included 96 healthy subjects. Hemoglobin electrophoresis were performed in all subjects, and all participants were assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire and the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX). The FSFI scores of the study group were significantly lower than in the control group (19.1 ± 9.6 vs. 25.2 ± 6.6, p < 0.001). Conversely, the ASEX scores of the study group were higher than in the control group (15.2 ± 41 vs. 13.5 ± 6.1, p = 0.0085). Sexual functions were poor in subjects with BTM in this study and we conclude that certain metabolic diseases associated with BTM, such as insulin resistance, hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia, may be the main causes of sexual dysfunctions in these subjects. © 2020, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Limited.
