Öğe Adaptaton of the rapd weght loss questonnare to the Turksh language: A valdty and relablty study n weght classfed athletes(2024) Orsçelik, Aydan; Yıldız, Yeliz Ay; Ercan, Sabriye; Büyüklüoğlu, GökhanObjectves: The purpose of weight classification in certain sports is to ensure safe and fair competition. However, some athletes attempt to gain an advantage by losing weight to compete in a lower weight category. The Rapid Weight Loss Questionnaire (RWLQ) assesses the weight loss status of athletes. This study aims to translate the RWLQ into Turkish (RWLQ-Tr), while ensuring its validity and reliability. Materals and Methods: Cross sectional study. Three independent experts translated the questionnaire from English into Turkish. The Turkish version of the questionnaire was obtained by translating the questionnaire into Turkish and then back into English. The translated questionnaire was then compared with the original questionnaire and harmonised. The content validity of the questionnaire was evaluated through expert opinion using the Davis method. At least 12 years old weight-classified sports athletes (n=330) were included in the pilot study. The RWLQ-Tr and the Dutch Eating Be haviour Questionnaire-Tr were administered simultaneously to the athletes participating in the pilot study. To assess reliability of the RWLQ-Tr, 93 ath letes completed the questionnaire twice, with a 15-day interval. Results: The Content Validity Ratio value was found to be 0.994. Discriminant validity was established between the independent groups created ba sed on weight loss below 4 kg (n=181) and above 4 kg (n=118), determined by the median value (50th percentile is 4 kg) obtained from responses to the 14th question of the RWLQ (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in total scores between the test (31.0±12.3) and retest (30.5±12.2). The Bland-Altman plot test revealed a mean difference of -0.525 (p=0.318). Conclusons: A valid and reliable Turkish version of the RWLQ for weight-classified athletes was obtained.Öğe Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the Mental Health Disorders Screening Instrument for Athletes in a Turkish sample(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Ercan, Sabriye; Buyukluoglu, Gokhan; Buyukluoglu, Nihan; Ay Yildiz, Yeliz; Sevindik Aktas, Buket; Orscelik, AydanObjectives Screening instruments suitable for the early detection of mental health issues in athletes are limited. The aim of this study is to adapt the Mental Health Disorders Screening Instrument for Athletes (MHDSIA) into Turkish and evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods The adaptation process followed COSMIN guidelines. Language adaptation was performed using a forward-backward translation method, and content validity was evaluated with expert opinions. This cross-sectional methodological study included 251 volunteer athletes. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analyses were employed for construct validity, and reliability was examined with the Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Criterion validity was tested against the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL-90-R), and sensitivity and specificity were evaluated via Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results The Turkish version of the MHDSIA demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.864) and satisfactory content validity (I-CVI = 0.857-1.000; S-CVI = 0.969). EFA supported a single-factor structure, which was confirmed by CFA, with adequate goodness-of-fit indices (e.g. RMSEA = 0.074). The ROC analysis showed an AUC of 0.774 (p < 0.001), with an optimal cutoff point identified as 32, yielding sensitivity of 78.4% and specificity of 67.5%.ConclusionThe Turkish version of the MHDSIA was determined to be a valid and reliable screening instrument, and it has been demonstrated that it can be used as an effective method for assessing the mental health of athletes.Öğe Is the vitamin D level important on isokinetic muscle strength in adolescent athletes?(Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat Üniversitesi, 2019) Ercan, SabriyeAim: To determine the relation between vitamin D levels and isokinetic muscular strength in athletes, and to compare the muscular strength between athletes with and without vitamin D deficiency. Methods: The records in the sports medicine clinic were examined, where the general medical examinations and performance analyses of the athletes had been conducted. The data of the athletes were examined, whose serum 25-OH vitamin D levels had been determined and isokinetic knee flexion-extension muscular strength test had been conducted. Age, height, body weight, discipline of sports, the year of beginning to sports and training duration per week (hours/week) were recorded for each athlete. The athletes were separated into two groups as vitamin D levels below 20 ng/mL (Group 1) and above 20 ng/mL (Group 2). Results: There was not any statistically significant difference between the demographic data and training data of the groups (p> 0.05). Vitamin D deficiency was found in 44% of all the athletes. The average vitamin D level was 13.8 ng/mL for Group 1, and 27.2 ng/mL for Group 2 (p:0.001). The serum calcium and serum phosphor levels were similar (p> 0.05). The isokinetic muscular strength test did not yield a difference between the two groups. It was found that vitamin D levels did not show any correlation with demographic data, training details and with any parameter of muscular strength (p> 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, there are no difference in effect of vitamin D on muscle strength, but significant results could be obtained in other studies with large participants.Öğe Isokinetic evaluation of adolescent athletes with os good schlatter disease(Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat Üniversitesi, 2018) Aydin, Canan Gonen; Kargın, Deniz; Bayhan, Avni İlhan; Ercan, Sabriye; Örsçelik, AydanAim: Os Good Schlatter Disease (OGS) is a common condition for sportspeople during the growth period. The etiology is still unclear. Its definition is traction apophysis. The OGS knees are thought to have stronger muscle power. The aim of this study is to evaluate muscle strength in OGS knees. Materials and methods: We examined 96 athletes who applied to our clinic. We evaluated the muscular strength by separating the knees in two groups as the knees with OGS and without OGS. Knee muscle strength was measured in 60 and 180 degrees/second with isokinetic dynamometer CYBEX NORM (CSMI Humac Norm, ABD). Peak torque (PT), peak torque/body weight (PT/BW) and agonist/antagonist (flexor/extensor, AG/AN) values were collected. Independent samples t-test was used for statistical evaluation. Results: At 60 degrees, we found a significant difference between PTE, PTF, PT / BW E and PT / BW F (p= 0.02, p= 0.002). PTE, PDF, PT/ BWF were statistically significant also at 180 degrees (p= 0,00 ). Conclusion: Muscle strengths of the non-OGS group were statistically stronger than those of OGS group. In order to demonstrate better performance of the athletes with OGS, training plans should be conducted to increase their muscle strength.Öğe Psychosocial predictors of mobbing and burnout in para-athletes: Insights for mental health(Public Library Science, 2025) Yildiz, Yeliz Ay; Buyukluoglu, Gokhan; Buyukluoglu, Nihan; Ercan, Sabriye; Orscelik, AydanPara-athletes may experience psychological challenges such as mobbing and burnout, which can impair their performance, motivation, and well-being. Despite the inclusive goals of the Paralympic Movement, recent evidence suggests that para-athletes are not immune to negative psychosocial experiences. This study aimed to examine the relationship between mobbing exposure and burnout among para-athletes and to identify demographic and psychological predictors of mobbing. This cross-sectional study included para-athletes aged 18-45 with at least two years of sports experience. Participants completed an online survey including demographic variables, the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R), and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ). Statistical analyses included group comparisons, correlation tests, and linear regression modeling to explore factors associated with mobbing exposure. A total of 93 para-athletes participated. NAQ-R scores varied significantly by age and showed positive correlations with ABQ-PEE (physical/emotional exhaustion) and ABQ-SD (sport devaluation) scores. Regression Analysis, Adjusted R-2 = 0.296. Model was significant (F(9,83)=4.10, p < 0.001). Significant predictors, ABQ-SD (beta = 0.312, p = 0.004), education level (beta = 0.278, p = 0.011). Regression analysis revealed that higher ABQ-SD and educational level were significant predictors of increased mobbing exposure. ABQ-SD and education level are key predictors of mobbing and burnout in para-athletes, revealing that negative interpersonal dynamics persist even in para-sport environments. Targeted anti-mobbing strategies and tailored psychological support are essential to protect mental health and enhance the athletic experience.Öğe The reality of pressure ulcers: an exploratory sequential mixed design study in coaches and Paralympic athletes(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Yildiz, Yeliz Ay; Ercan, Sabriye; Orscelik, AydanObjectivesThis study aims to explore and understand the knowledge and attitudes of Paralympic athletes and their coaches toward pressure ulcers. By focusing on this underserved population, the study seeks to improve awareness, recognition, and management practices to minimize the health and performance impacts of pressure ulcers in Paralympic sports.MethodsParalympic athletes and their coaches were contacted. Volunteers were included in the exploratory sequential mixed design study. In the quantitative phase, a digital survey was used to evaluate Paralympic athletes' and coaches' awareness of pressure ulcers. To gain a deeper understanding of the factors deemed significant in the quantitative analyses, the researcher conducted one-on-one semi-structured interviews with athletes and coaches. The data was analyzed using the SPSS package program and MAXQDA program.ResultsTen coaches and 82 Paralympic athletes participated in the study. The sports disciplines were wheelchair basketball (40%), Paralympic table tennis (40%), Paralympic court tennis (10%), and athletics (10%). Coaches' knowledge about pressure ulcers was low, and athletes' knowledge was even lower. It was concluded that coaches should improve their attitudes toward pressure ulcers, particularly in the areas of competence and responsibility sharing. During the interviews with the participants, several themes emerged.ConclusionTo address pressure ulcers' significance, it is essential to increase the knowledge level of both athletes and the entire team and adopt a positive attitude. It has been concluded that different areas of expertise in the fields of health and sports should work with a more organized structure and team awareness.
