    Effectiveness of Agriculture forestry and environment committee in adoption of Sustainable Soil Management Practices ( SSMP) technology in Ramechhap and Dolakha , Nepal

    AbstractThisresearch was conducted in Ramechap and Dolakha district of Nepal to analyze therole of AFEC in SSMP technology adoption. A total of 120 samples were collectedrandomly from 4 VDCs i.e Sindrawati, and Chisapani Namdu, Puranogaun. Out ofthese 4 VDC in 2 VDC, AFEC was formed. Both qualitative and quantitativeinformation were collected using semi-structured questionnaire by house holdsurvey, key informant interview and focus group discussion. From the study itwas revealed that effectiveness of these committees in participatoryplanning, resource mobilization and agriculture service provision was highlysignificant. Participation of farmers in local level planning was significantlyhigher in VDC with AFEC (73.3 percent) than in VDCs without AFEC (43.3percent). Farmers with AFEC were getting technical service easily with the index value of 2.84 as compared tofarmers without AFEC. The mean level of adoption was significantly higher inVDCs with AFEC (43.69 percent HH) than in VDC without AFEC (11.78 percentHH).  According to Logit regressionmodel, training education of HH head and presence of AFEC were found to bestatistically significant in determining the adoption of SSMP technology.
