Determinants of choice of market outlet among smallholder poultry farmers in Oyo State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study examined the factors that influence choice of market outlet among smallholder poultry farmers in Oyo state, Nigeria. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaires. A multistage sampling technique was used to select 200 poultry farmers from two Agricultural Development Zones in Oyo state Nigeria. Multinomial logit results showed that household size, contractual agreement, road condition and total number of birds on the farm influenced the choice of local market outlet while years of formal education, years of poultry farming experience, price information and access to extension officers influenced the choice of urban market outlet. The study recommends that extension officers should provide market information to the poultry farmers regularly to enhance smallholder farmers’ commercialization The study examined the factors that influence choice of market outlet among smallholder poultry farmers in Oyo state, Nigeria.
